What is often forgotten when moving

You have just rented or bought a new home and are preparing to start a new chapter in your life. The finish line is very close – it remains only to cross it! But when you have so many different things to think about when it comes to moving, it’s easy to lose sight of something at the last minute. We have prepared tips to help make your move with full service packing and moving smooth and avoid unnecessary worries and frustrations.

REMOVE HEAVY AND FRAGILE OBJECTS FROM DRAWERS
Imagine: the move is already tomorrow, and you have not finished packing yet. It may have taken longer than you expected to pack the dishes. Eventually, however, you finish packing and, with a sigh of relief, pour yourself a glass of wine to celebrate. You go around your house for the last time and then you notice a chest of drawers loaded to the top in the corner. You are too tired to handle it, and decide that you can transport it anyway …

What you haven’t considered is that your chest of drawers doesn’t like being moved. Especially with drawers full of junk. As a result, the move ends badly for both the chest of drawers and the broken items inside. Now all you think about is that you rushed to a decision the day before … Broken things need to be replaced or repaired, and the time you saved last night will come back to haunt you.

This trouble could have been easily avoided. If the dresser is light, take everything out of it before moving. It’s better not to risk it. In the case of more durable chests of drawers, clothes are usually allowed inside, but fragile items should still be removed at all times.

MAKE SURE THE TRUCK HAS A WHERE TO PARK
On the morning of the move, the moving company calls you to say that they are already on their way. They ask where they can park their big truck and then you start to panic. You run out into the street and see cars lined up along the curb as far as the eye can see. The nearest parking spot is two blocks away, which you timidly inform the movers about. In response, they report that the move will now last until late in the evening and will cost three times more than you expected.

For a successful move, it is essential to reserve parking spaces near both your old home and your new one. The obligation to provide parking for trucks lies with the customer. Any parking fines are also the responsibility of the customer. Therefore, secure parking spaces in advance so that you do not incur any additional fees / fines. This will make the move shorter and easier.

RESERVE THE ELEVATOR
The movers have arrived. They come into your apartment, lift and carry the sofa to the elevator. One of the movers presses a button and then waits 2 minutes for the elevator to arrive. Finally, the doors open, and there are 6 people and a dog – not even a lamp will enter.

Therefore, if you live in an apartment building, you need to reserve an elevator and coordinate the time with your moving company. The service elevator is usually protected with blankets before the move begins, and in some cases you won’t even be allowed to use it without prior arrangement. Sometimes insurance from the transport company is also required. In this case, it must be received before the day of the move. It is enough to request a copy from the transport company by e-mail or fax.

MARK BOXES FOR EACH ROOM
Hooray! The move is over, the movers have left, and now you are in a new place with all your belongings. But then you look around and you see boxes everywhere. You open the first box in the living room – it contains dishes. Go to the kitchen and there you will find blankets with clothes in boxes. You are already tired, and the move is not yet close to completion.

There is a simple solution to this problem that can be used at the time of packaging: label each box as it fills up. In this case, the movers will be able to carry the marked boxes to the right room. After all, the last thing you want on moving day is spending extra hours looking for things around the house, and then moving everything to its place.

A simple label on each box will make it much easier to unpack at a new location and you will immediately feel at home. In addition, the markings will help movers navigate the safest way to place the boxes in the van. For example, writing “fragile” on antique china boxes will prevent them from being at the very bottom or under your dumbbell boxes.

As stressful as a move can be, these simple steps will help make it as smooth as possible. A little preparation will pay off many times over and will save time and money – something that we usually lack.
